Cold and Flu Season has arrived!

Please be aware that many viruses are currently circulating, including RSV, influenza and COVID-19.

Initial treatment is supportive - please see below about how to manage your child’s symptoms and when to seek help from your doctor:

We strongly recommend the annual influenza vaccine, especially for those 6months-5 years old, >65yo and those with chronic or immunosuppressive medical conditions. You may get your influenza vaccine at most local pharmacies OR you can call our office and schedule a visit with one of our nurses.

You can book a COVID vaccine from one of the regional Public Health clinics here, or, you can call your local pharmacy. When to get your COVID booster is becoming increasingly personalized, but please check out this great summary on COVID-19 Bivalent boosters from the University of Waterloo. In addition, there is a great FAQ in the Globe and Mail.

We are aware that there is a nation-wide shortage for acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen ( Motrin/Advil) for infants and children. Although, we were excited to hear that Health Canada has recently secured an additional supply of children’s acetaminophen products, so please stay tuned. In the meantime, please visit one of our local compounding pharmacies (Lancaster Wellness, Beechwood Wellness or Cooks Pharmacy) to acquire compounded options - these do NOT require a prescription. If you cannot secure a compounded option, please use the chart below to convert adult formulations to children.

As always, we are here to answer any additional questions you may have.
